Ingredients
Jar of Maraschino Cherries with stems
6-8ouncessemi-sweet baking chocolate
almond slices
Hershey's Kisses or Kisses Minis
wax paper
Optional: small bar of white chocolate or white candy melts for eyes and nose and a toothpick
Instructions
Drain cherries and pat dry with paper towels. They need to be dry for the chocolate to stick.
Place chocolate, broken or cut into small pieces, into a small mixing bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals until chocolate is melted, stirring after each interval. Lay out your wax paper while you're waiting.
Have your cherries, almond slices, and kisses ready to go for this part. Dip cherries in chocolate (fully coat) and place on wax paper with the "tails" (stems) diagonally (Not straight up and down). Just do 5-8 cherries before moving on to the next step.
Place 2 almond slices on the opposite end of the cherry from the stem. These will be your ears. Place a Kiss on top of the almond slices for the head. If the Kiss doesn't stick well, it's likely that the chocolate dried too much or there's not enough. Just dab a little chocolate on the Kiss and place it on that way.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you run out of cherries.
I waited for the chocolate to fully set for this part, but if you're less clumsy than me, you can do this right away. Melt the white chocolate in a small mixing bowl using the same method as in step 2. Dip a toothpick in the white chocolate and dab on the "head" for eyes and nose.
