Spiced Sugar Cookies take your traditional sugar cookies and make them amazing with spicy cinnamon and nutmeg, topped with a creamy frosting and a sprinkle of cinnamon!

Ingredients
1 ¾cupsflour
¾teaspoonbaking soda
2teaspoonscinnamon
1½teaspoonsginger
¼teaspoonnutmegoptional
¼teaspoonsalt
½cupbutterroom temperature
⅔cupsugar
1egg
1teaspoonvanilla extract
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
In a separate large mixing bowl, cream together shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla and mix again.
Add dry ingredients and stir by hand with a large spoon.
Cover and chill for 1 hour.
Roll cookies out on a floured surface using a floured rolling pin. Cut out cookies using a glass or cookie cutters.
Place rolled out cookies on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350° for about 5-7, until lightly brown on the edges. Cool before frosting.
Notes
Top your spiced sugar cookies with your favorite frosting when they're done baking. My 2 favorites are this simple vanilla buttercream or this cream cheese frosting. Try adding a tablespoon or 2 or cinnamon for spiced frosting too!
