Ingredients
40 to 50Saltine crackers (as many as will fit on your baking sheet in one layer)
1cupunsalted butter
1cup brown sugar
12ouncessemi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.
Fill sheet completely with saltine crackers in a single layer. Do not overlap them. Set sheet aside.
In a medium saucepan over medium-high, melt butter and brown sugar together and bring to a boil. Stir occasionally until combined and sugar is melted.
Continue to boil undisturbed for 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and pour caramel mixture over the cracker layer. Spread with a wooden spoon if needed to cover them evenly.
Bake in preheated oven 425°F for 4-5 minutes, or until just bubbly.
Remove from oven and sprinkle immediately with chocolate chips. When chips begin to melt, spread them over crackers with a rubber spatula. If you plan on adding any topping, add them on at this point while the chocolate is still melted.
Allow to cool completely.
Once cooled, break into serving-size pieces.

Notes
Chocolate - With so few ingredients, it's important to choose high quality ones for best flavor. Choose a high quality milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate.
Crackers - Use salted for the best flavor!
Storage: Saltine toffee is best when eaten fresh. However, it can be stored covered or in a bag in a cool, dark place for up to a week.
