Topping Ideas
The toppings for this saltine toffee are basically limitless. I would avoid fresh fruit, as it won't keep well at room temperature. However, this treat can be decorated for any holiday or occasion by changing up the colors or toppings.
- Chopped nuts - such as pecans or walnuts
- Festive sprinkles
- Crushed candy canes
- Toffee bits
- M&M's
- Shredded coconut
- Flaky sea salt
- White chocolate drizzle - Or use another color candy melts like pink for Valentine's Day or orange for Halloween.
- Dried fruit
- Crushed pretzels
- Crushed cookies
How to Store Saltine Toffee
Once fully cooled and chocolate is set, saltine toffee should be stored in an airtight container or bag in a cool, dark place, such as the pantry, to prevent the chocolate from melting.

Saltine Toffee
Ingredients
- 40 to 50 Saltine crackers (as many as will fit on your baking sheet in one layer)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.
- Fill sheet completely with saltine crackers in a single layer. Do not overlap them. Set sheet aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high, melt butter and brown sugar together and bring to a boil. Stir occasionally until combined and sugar is melted.
- Continue to boil undisturbed for 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and pour caramel mixture over the cracker layer. Spread with a wooden spoon if needed to cover them evenly.
- Bake in preheated oven 425°F for 4-5 minutes, or until just bubbly.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle immediately with chocolate chips. When chips begin to melt, spread them over crackers with a rubber spatula. If you plan on adding any topping, add them on at this point while the chocolate is still melted.
- Allow to cool completely.
- Once cooled, break into serving-size pieces.
Notes
- Chocolate - With so few ingredients, it's important to choose high quality ones for best flavor. Choose a high quality milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate.
- Crackers - Use salted for the best flavor!
- Storage: Saltine toffee is best when eaten fresh. However, it can be stored covered or in a bag in a cool, dark place for up to a week.
