Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
This Homemade Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce is a recipe I've been making and tweaking since college, which was now an embarrassing number of years ago... In any case, I was obsessed with this stuff then, and I'm even more obsessed now.
To make your own homemade honey mustard dipping sauce, you just need 4 simple pantry ingredients, two of which are right in the name! This little pot of honey-gold sauce easy to make, sweet, tangy, and a little creamy, and it's just absolutely amazing on everything.
What Is Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce Made Of?
Most people think that honey mustard sauce is just honey and mustard, but there's actually a few other ingredients that add to its creamy tanginess.
So yes there is honey and mustard in this recipe, but there is also mayo for creaminess and a little bit of vinegar for the perfect amount of tang.
What Can You Use this Honey Mustard Sauce Dipping Sauce and Dressing for?
Honey mustard is such a versatile sauce that you can use it almost anywhere with success!
- Use it for Dipping. Dip pretty much anything into this sauce. Chicken tenders, any protein like chicken, pork, or turkey, or veggies. I even like to dip my French fries or potato chips in honey mustard sometimes if I'm craving a little tang.
- Use it as a Dressing. Honey mustard makes an excellent dressing on green salads, like this honey mustard chicken salad, or even wraps!
- Use it for a Glaze. This is one of my favorite ways to use honey mustard because when you use it as a glaze it caramelizes in sticky, gooey, tangy perfection. Glaze it over basically any protein. My top recommendations are baked or grilled salmon, roasted or grilled chicken, or baked or grilled pork chops.
- Use it for a Marinade. Similar to a glaze, you can use honey mustard as a marinade. Let your meat sit in the honey mustard prior to cooking, at least 1 hour or up to 24 hours. The vinegar will tenderize the meat and the tangy-sweet flavor will permeate through it.
Substitution Guide:
Mustard- Grainy mustard or dijon will both work but result in different flavors and textures. I prefer and recommend your average yellow mustard.
Vinegar - Use white wine vinegar instead of plain white vinegar. I do not recommend using red wine vinegar or lemon juice, as the flavors are too strong and will add extra, unwanted flavor elements.
Mayo - Greek yogurt is a possible substitute to cut calories. However, it will significantly alter the flavor.
How Long Does Homemade Honey Mustard Last?
Homemade Honey Mustard should be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 to 7 days.
