Banana Cream Pie
I'm so excited to share this recipe today! I have no idea why I haven't shared until now! Banana Cream Pie is one of my all-time favorite desserts EVER. And this one is my grandma's recipe, and it's SO EASY! You're going to love it. And if you don't, just send it my way! I could eat a whole pie myself!
This Banana Cream Pie uses a flaky no fail pie crust, which is easy to make and I use for all my pies. It also uses pudding and fresh, sweet and ripe bananas. AND homemade whipped cream, which is also easy to make and well worth the effort. I garnished the pie in the pictures with some toasted coconut and nilla wafers, which isn't necessary, but does make it look extra pretty.
This Banana Cream Pie is fresh and sweet and perfect for spring now that it's officially here. Or perfect for all-the-time, in my opinion. There's never a bad time for Banana Cream Pie!

Banana Cream Pie Recipe
Banana Cream Pie
Ingredients
- 1 pie crust baked in a 9-inch pie plate
- 3 ripe bananas sliced
Custard Filling
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 2 cups half and half
- 4 egg yolks
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Whipped Cream Topping and Garnish
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Banana slices for decoration
Instructions
- Follow directions for making and baking pie crust here. Then set aside to allow to cool completely.
- In a medium mixing bowl, quickly whisk together half-and-half and egg yolks.
- Add sugar and cornstarch to a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
- Place saucepan with sugar mixture over medium heat. Begin slowly adding egg yolk mixture, continuously whisking to combine.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking constantly. Allow to boil for 1 minute.
- Remove from heat. Immediately stir in butter and vanilla.
- Place plastic wrap directly on custard mixture and let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes.
- Slice bananas and arrange slices into the cooled pie shell.
- Spread custard on top of banana slices (it’s ok if it is still slightly warm).
- Place a piece of plastic wrap directly on top of the custard; again, to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 1 day.
Finish your pie
- To a large mixing bowl, add whipped cream topping ingredients. Whip on high until stiff peaks form.
- Pipe or spread the whipped cream on top of the pie. Top with additional banana slices, if desired.
