Buttermilk pancakes, buttermilk biscuits,… So many delicious things to be made with buttermilk. But what if you don’t have buttermilk on hand?! Don’t fret. Here’s a super easy buttermilk substitute using ingredients you probably do have on hand.
I use this quite often because I rarely ever have any buttermilk, and it works wonderfully. Plus, it couldn’t be any easier with just two ingredients! Just mix up the ingredients and let it set in a bowl for a few minutes and voila! You can use for whatever tasty recipe you’re making that needs buttermilk!
The following recipe will give you one cup of buttermilk substitute.
Buttermilk Substitute Recipe
- milk whole milk works best, but 2% or 1% work too
- white vinegar
- Place 1 tablespoon white vinegar in a liquid measuring cup. Fill the measuring cup up the rest of the way to one cup with milk.
- Let mixture sit for 5 minutes. Then it's ready to use for your recipe.
