Make this easy, fun, and creepy DIY Spider Costume for Kids for a creepy crawly frugal do it yourself Halloween costume!

DIY Spider Costume for Kids - Make this easy, fun, and creepy DIY Spider Costume for Kids for a creepy crawly frugal do it yourself Halloween costume! So cool. Made from just a few black shirts!

DIY Spider Costume for Kids

I'm going to be honest. I'm not usually a DIY Halloween costume kind of girl.  I like the kind I can pick up at the store and not have to worry about until it's time to put on! Now, I'm not sure if my oldest kiddo is the only one like this, but he has the tendency to make things a little hard on me.  For example, deciding that he wants to be something for Halloween that I can't find in stores or online or anywhere.  So then, I'm left to decide whether to go the easy route and persuade him to be something else, or suck-it-up-buttercup and make the boy happy!

And that, my friends, is how this DIY Spider Costume came to be.  Honestly, it wasn't too bad to make. So I wanted to share how to make a DIY Spider Costume for children in case there are any other little creepy crawly spider wanna-be's this Halloween!

Cheesy smile!

And now pouting after being told to just "stand still." Lol

Here's What You'll Need to Make Your DIY Spider Costume

  • 3 Black Long Sleeve T-shirts (in your child's size or even a size up)
  • 2 pool noodles, about 4-6 feet long (or check your local hardware store for pipe insulator since it can be hard to find pool toys in October.)
  • Feather trim (I used this red marabou, 2 yards)
  • Black sweatpants
  • Black sock hat
  • Googly Eyes
  • Fishing Line
  • Black thread and sewing needle (Or sewing machine, if you have one)

DIY Spider Costume Directions:

1. Set one of the shirts aside.  Cut the arms off of the other 2.

2.  Turn the sleeves inside out and sew the opening where the hand goes closed. I just sewed straight across and tied it off.  Turn them back right-side-out, and set them aside for a minute.

3.  Cut the pool noodles in half, or long enough to fit into the cut sleeves.

4.  Place noodles into sleeves. Make sure the noodles are short enough that you can pin the sleeves closed with about a ½-inch to 1-inch section on the end to be able to sew it to the intact shirt.

5.  Pin the open end of the 4 sleeves closed.  Then sew them shut leaving that ½-inch to 1-inch section on the end.

6.  Pin the sewn sleeves onto the sides of the intact shirt, below the sleeves already attached to the shirt.  Sew them on.

7.  You can sew the marabou feathers on, but I chose to take the shortcut and hot glue.  So I just measured around the cuffs of the 6 sleeves and the bottom of the pants. Then cut and hot glue onto each one.

8.  Grab 6 googly eyes, and glue those on to the front of the hat.

9.  When your kiddo is all dressed and ready for trick-or-treating, loosely tie some fish line around each wrist, and then each of the other arms on the same side to the same fish line so that when he moves his real arms, his extra spider arms move, too!

And that's how you make a fun, creepy, crawly DIY Spider costume for Halloween! Happy trick or treating!
