Grilled Barbecue Pork Tenderloin Sandwich

When most people think of barbecue pork sandwiches, they think of pulled pork like this easy 3-ingredient pulled pork or this zesty Southern version.  This grilled barbecue pork tenderloin sandwich goes in a whole new tangy, juicy direction.  I've been really into sticking to very basic ingredients that are already around the house lately.  I hate that I have so many bottles and whatnot that was purchased to try one recipe and not touched since.  I also find that a lot of the time, sticking to simple recipes and simple ingredients makes for amazing food, like this Grilled Barbecue Pork Tenderloin Sandwich.

This recipe features such simple ingredients as salt, pepper, garlic powder, your favorite barbecue, cheese, and bread. And of course, the tenderloin.  Preparation instructions are below for grilling the pork tenderloins. When they're cooked, just cut them down into smaller pieces and toss them with barbecue.

You can also make these yummy sandwiches using leftovers.  If you have some leftover pork chops, pork steaks, or tenderloin, chop it up, reheat it, then assemble the sandwiches like in the recipe.  If you want to use pork chops instead of pork tenderloins, place about 4 boneless pork chops on a baking sheet, brush with barbecue, and bake at 425-degrees for about 30 minutes, or until cooked through (or just grill them!).  Then assemble the sandwiches as described in the recipe above.

I love the way sharp cheddar tastes with barbecue, but feel free to use your own favorite cheese. Also, I love red sauteed onions on mine, and directions for preparing them are in the recipe below. Feel free to customize these grilled barbecue pork tenderloin sandwiches to make them your own!

Ingredients

  • 2 pork tenderloins (about ¾ pound each)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • ½ cup your favorite barbecue sauce
  • 6 slices medium cheddar
  • 6 sandwich rolls
  • Additional barbecue for sandwiches

Optional

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 red onion sliced

Instructions

  •  2 Grill, covered with grill lid, over medium-high heat (350° to 400°) 10 to 12 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer inserted into thickest portions registers 155°. Remove from grill, and let stand 10 minutes. Chop or slice, and serve on hamburger buns. Drizzle each sandwich with 1 Tbsp. Vidalia Onion Barbecue Sauce.
  • Lightly brush tenderloins with 1 teaspoon each olive oil.
  • Season tenderloins with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (half each). Rub to incorporate.
  • Grill over medium-high heat with grill cover closed for about 10-12 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer inserted into thickest portions registers 155°.
  • Remove from grill, and let stand 10 minutes.
  • Chop or slice tenderloin. Toss in barbecue sauce.
  • Divide pork between 6 sandwich rolls, placing some inside each roll.
  • OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS: Heat oil in a large skillet. Add onions and saute until tender. Place some sauteed onions on top of the pork on each sandwich.
  • Top with extra barbecue, if desired, and a slice of cheese. Broil for 2-5 minutes to melt cheese, if desired. 

Notes
