Birthday Cake Bath Salts
Fall is also known as "Birthday Season" at our house. It's totally crazy and jam-packed with 11 family birthdays (if I'm remembering correctly...) and 4 of them are just in our little Gracious family. Crazy, right? Anyway, this year we have a little nephew whose first birthday is this week and the sweet little guy is also kicking off Birthday Season this year... a month sooner than we're used to. Ahh!
But because we love him, and I'm sure he was just trying to fit in with everyone else in the family, we'll be good sports and go with the flow. However, I know in about a month and a half, I'll be stressed to the max and want to pull my hair out. At which point I'll draw a warm bath and use these delicious, relaxing DIY Birthday Cake Bath Salts to take the edge. And Birthday Cake Bath Salts are just super fitting for Birthday Season, right?
This DIY bath soak is perfect for aching sore muscles, a relaxing soak and detox but with a twist of whimsy mixed in for fun. And the aroma? It is delicious, like a fresh baked birthday cake, a decadent treat for sure! This soak is a fun and safe indulgence for yourself or for the kids. Plus it makes a super cute birthday present to give away to friends and family for a birthday or anytime bath soak (Hello, perfect gift for my tween nieces!) The best part is there aren't any calories or fat to go to your waist.
While the base ingredients are natural, you may be concerned about the food dyes contained in the sprinkles, I have included a link below to some natural sprinkles so you can still create this fun DIY bath salts recipe without the worry.
What You'll Need:
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- ½ tsp. butter extract
- 1-2 T. Sprinkles
Directions for Birthday Cake Bath Soak:
1. Combine Epsom salts, baking soda, and cornstarch in a bowl. Stir to combine.
2. Slowly add vanilla and butter extracts, just a couple drops at a time, whisking them in to incorporate well. To get them mixed in even better, you can rub the salts between your fingers to combine after whisking.
3. When extracts are well mixed you can stir in sprinkles, adding as much or as little as you'd like.
4. Transfer ingredients to a jar with a tight fitting lid to store.
Add a cute handmade tag if you are planning on gifting your bath soak.
To use: pour 1 cup bath soak under running water, relax and soak for at least 30 minutes to get the full benefits.

Can you please tell me how much this recipe makes - finished product? (i.e. what size Jar would be suitable). thanks!
Michelle says
It makes about 3-3.5 cups. It would fit in about 2 of these mason jars: http://amzn.to/2nnYGKE Or 1 of these large ones: http://amzn.to/2ndYjlr
Emily Candia says
Do you have to butter extract or is there something use to substitute it?
Michelle says
Well you don't have to, but you'll lose that cake-y scent that it helps to create.
Emily Candia says
Is there a substitute for it at all?
Mona says
This looks so fun to make for kids and teens.
Tisha F. says
Is it suppsed to look like cake batter and less of a salt scrub? It smells really great with the buttercreme flavor oil that i used.
Michelle says
It shouldn't be runny like batter. Maybe because of the flavor oil you used?
Suzanne says
This is so cool! What a fun gift to make for a freind for their birthday!
Vanessa says

Michelle says
Yes, it keeps well. Nothing in it really can "go bad."
