Even if you're not a football fan, you can get in on fun this Fall, too with these 5 Ways to Enjoy Football with Your Spouse!

5 Ways to Enjoy Football with Your Spouse - Even if you're not a football fan, you can get in on fun this Fall, too with these 5 Ways to Enjoy Football with Your Spouse! Great marriage advice for football season.  Love this.  Such an awesome way to show your spouse that you're willing to learn about things he's interested in!

5 Ways to Enjoy Football with Your Spouse

If football is not your thing it can be hard to make yourself sit down next to your spouse and watch a game. But the benefits are well worth making the effort. It gives you an opportunity to bond with your spouse, and cheering for a common team (or adding a little good-natured competition) is fun! So if you just can't bring yourself to make the jump, I have come up with 5 ways to make watching football more fun even if it isn’t something you would normally watch. Grab yourself a T shirt or jersey and let’s give it a chance!

5 Ways to Enjoy Football with Your Spouse

1. Learn the basics of the game.

The first thing you might want to do if you are going to start watching football is to learn a little about it. It helps to know a quarterback from your running back and your field goal from a touchdown. This site, www.thefootballgirl.com, is a great resource for teaching you the basics, including everything from how many players make up a game to what an interception is. Your partner will love that you're taking an interest in something that he enjoys, and he might even want to jump in on your research and tell you his favorite parts.  Having a basic understanding of the game will make it much more enjoyable for you and your spouse.

2. Make it Interesting.

Remember that a little friendly competition is fun and keeps things lively. Root for the opposite team, with enthusiasm. Bring a little friendly smack talk to the game and maybe a bet. Whoever has the losing team- does the dishes all week, runs a dreaded errand, or owes the other a long back rub. Keep it fun, simple, and friendly!

3. Keep your hands busy.

I have a hard time just sitting still for a couple of hours doing nothing but staring at the TV, even though I enjoy the game. Find something to keep your hands busy with while you watch the game next to your hubby. You can do a crossword, knit, fold socks, or paint your toes. Willingly being present in the room with your spouse, even if you are multitasking can still go towards building togetherness and a shared bond.

4. Have a party.

Turn a regular old Sunday Night Football game into a small (or large) gathering. Invite friends and family, have everyone bring a dish to share, and enjoy a social time while everyone cheers for their favorite team. Toss out a few napkins in team colors, some chips, and some football themed coloring sheets for the little ones and enjoy the group fun.

5. Include the kids.

Make watching games a family affair. Help teach your kids the basics and encourage loud cheering! Having a common interest together as a family gives you something to look forward to each week. Watching football gives you a free activity you can do as a family. Follow up on non-game days with a game of touch or flag football in the yard with the family to extend the family football enjoyment.
