Caramel Brownies are fudgy, rich chocolate brownies swirled with luscious, sweet caramel. The perfect combination of gooey and chewy, they’re an indulgent treat that everyone will love!

Caramel Brownies
Caramel brownies with their rich, fudgy texture and luscious caramel swirls are indulgent treats that are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
Caramel brownies are a step up from classic chocolate brownies, adding a gooey, buttery caramel layer that enhances the overall richness. They combine the best of both worlds: deep chocolate flavor with a hint of salty-sweet caramel. Plus, they are incredibly easy to make at home!
Can I Make My Own Caramel Sauce?
Sure. You will want to make it close to soft-ball stage so that it will set in the brownie and not just absorb into the batter.

Variations, Toppings, and Add-Ins
Take your caramel brownies to the next level with these delicious add-ins and toppings:
- Nuts: Chopped pecans, walnuts, or almonds add a satisfying crunch.
- Extra Chocolate: Swirl in white, milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate chips or chunks right into the brownie batter for a sweeter contrast (My favorite trick for making brownies even more chocolatey and decadent!)
- Sea Salt: A sprinkle of flaky sea salt after baking enhances the caramel’s sweetness.
- Toffee Bits: Adds a crunchy, caramelized sweetness.
- Coconut Flakes: A tropical touch that pairs well with caramel.
- Candies: Such as Reese's pieces or M&M's can be swirled into the batter or sprinkled on top for serving.
- Whipped Cream: Serve with a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
- Ice Cream: Vanilla, chocolate, or salted caramel ice cream pairs perfectly with warm brownies.
- Caramel or Hot Fudge Sauce: Preferably both over a warm brownie topped with ice cream for the ultimate, gooey, rich caramel brownie experience.

Caramel Brownies
Ingredients
- 2¼ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups unsalted butter melted
- 6 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
Caramel Filling
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 package (11 ounces) caramel squares unwrapped
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a 9"x13" inch baking dish with parchment paper. Set aside
- In a large mixing bowl combine sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir well.
- Then whisk in melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract, until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips. Set aside.
- Prepare the caramel filling: In a small sauce pot combine the sweetened condensed milk, unwrapped caramels, and salt.
- Place over medium heat and stir continuously until the caramels have melted and combined into the condensed milk mixture. Remove from heat.
- Spread half the prepared brownie batter in the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the caramel over the batter and level out evenly. Then spread the remaining brownie batter over the top of the caramel.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until a tooth pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely before trying to cut. Once cool, lift the entire sheet of brownies out of the pan by the edges of the parchment paper. Cut into 24-30 pieces.
Notes
- Storage: Cover and store brownies at room temperature for up to a week.
- Freezing Instructions: Brownies freeze well up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator then bring to room temperature before serving.
