Easy traditional Grasshopper Pie is made with creme de menthe and marshmallow fluff for a creamy no bake dessert with a chocolate crust and cool minty filling.
Grasshopper Pie
Grasshopper pie is a delicious pie with a cool, minty, ice-cream-like filling that thankfully, has nothing to do with grasshoppers, other than its green color.
It has a lightly minty, fluffy, and creamy frozen filling inside of a simple chocolate crust.
The best part? No baking or cooking necessary!
Grasshopper pie is gorgeous for holidays like St. Patrick's Day or Christmas, and is perfect for mint chocolate lovers.
What is Grasshopper Pie?
Grasshopper pie is a no bake frozen pie with a chocolate crust and a frozen, minty filling.
It's typically made with creme de menthe and creme de cacao for flavoring. This version is made with marshmallow fluff, while some other versions are made with whole marshmallows or sweetened condensed milk, like a no churn ice cream.
The crust is a cookie or wafer crumb crust. You can use a store bought crust, but I love using a simple homemade Oreo crust.
Can I make Grasshopper Pie Non-Alcholic?
The alcohol content in this pie is very low. Creme de menthe is only 15% alcohol, whereas flavoring extracts such as mint are closer to 80%+ alcohol.
That being said, it is sometimes more cost effective to not have to buy a whole bottle of alcohol for just ¼ cup in a recipe!

To make yours without alcohol, eliminate the creme de menthe and creme de cacao. Replace with ¼ cup milk, ½ teaspoon mint extract (NOT peppermint! That will be a whole different flavor!), and a bit of green food coloring. Add those ingredients into the recipe at the same point the recipe calls for creme de menthe and cacao.

Grasshopper Pie
Ingredients
- 1 homemade Oreo Crust (my favorite recipe)
- 1 (7 ounce) containers marshmallow fluff (or marshmallow creme)
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream, divided
- ¼ cup creme de menthe liqueur
- 2 tablespoons creme de cacao liqueur
- 1-2 drops green food coloring (optional)
- Extra crushed Oreos for topping
Instructions
- Add marshmallow fluff to a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30-45 seconds, just until fluff is soft.
- Add ⅔ cup whipping cream to fluff. Whisk until combined. Set aside to cool.
- While waiting for marshmallow mixture to cool, prepare Oreo crust according to recipe directions. Place in the freezer while finishing the filling.
- Add creme de menthe, creme de cacao, and food coloring (if you're using it) to the cooled marshmallow mixture. Stir until combined.
- In a separate large mixing bowl, add remaining whipping cream (1-⅓ cup). Beat until stiff (like whipped cream!)
- Add whipped cream to the marshmallow mixture. Gently fold in.
- Pour filling into prepared crust. Spread smooth.
- Sprinkle extra cookie crumbs on top.
- Place pie in the freezer. Freeze until very firm, at least 2 hours.
- To serve: Remove from freezer 5-10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- If your creme de menthe liqueur is clear, add a couple drops of green food coloring to make it festively green! For extra minty flavor, use mint Oreos in your Oreo crust. Or, since it's "that time of year," you can use Thin mints too!
- You can use a pre-made Oreo crust from the store for this recipe to make it fast. But I think homemade is so much better. THIS is my favorite Oreo crust.
- Store your grasshopper pie covered in the freezer until ready to serve!
- The pie will keep in the freezer, covered with plastic wrap, for up to 2 days.
- The alcohol in this pie has no way of cooking off, so keep that in mind if serving to children or anyone who can't have alcohol.

I just made this, its in the fridge now c: but the alcohol is already separating and I don't know how to stop that?
It took me a solid few minutes before whipping the cream and folding the mixture in, so did I take too long or is it something else?
Michelle says
It needs to be frozen in the freezer. It's kind of like an ice cream pie.
