Butter Herb Roasted Turkey
Believe it or not, this foodie has gone all of her life without ever needing a turkey recipe until a year or two ago. ย I'd made a turkey before... Kind of... Well, someone would leave me a prepped turkey and tell me to put it in the oven at a certain time. Does that count?ย Mostly I was left in charge of making a few side dishes and lots of pies. But last year I found myself needing to make the actual turkey! Ahhh!
I was so nervous that I ran TWO trial runs with this recipe, and when it came out gorgeous, juicy and delicious both times, I was satisfied that it would be beautiful and tasty for the holidays, too. ย You can see some more {{turkey cooking tips}} from my newbie {{turkey cooking experience HERE}}, or you can go ahead and get straight to making your turkey with this amazing Butter Herb Roasted Turkey that will leave your turkey roasted golden with a hint of buttery flavor and herbs.
You will need a roasting pan and rack for this Butter Herb Roasted Turkey recipe. ย If you don't have one, you can pick one up at Walmart for pretty cheap, or you can grab one from Amazon here.

Butter Herb Roasted Turkey
Ingredients
- Whole turkey thawed if frozen, 1-1 ยฝ pounds per person
- 1 cup butter softened
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon dried sage
- ยผ teaspoon ground thyime
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ยฝ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325ยฐF.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together butter with all spices and seasonings.
- Rub half of the butter mixture underneath the skin on the breast.
- Rub the remaining butter mixture on the skin.
- Let the turkey stand at 30 minutes at room temperature before roasting.
- Put the oven rack in the lowest position. Place the turkey breast side up on a rack in a large roasting pan.
- Roast in a 325ยฐF oven and roast until skin turns golden and a thermometer reads 160ยฐF when inserted into the thigh, about 12-15 minutes per pound. Check the turkey about halfway through cooking, and once the skin gets golden brown, cover the top of the turkey with tinfoil, to protect the breast meat from overcooking.
- Once turkey reaches 160ยฐF, remove from the oven, tent with foil, and let it rest on the counter for at least 15 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165ยฐF before serving.
- Allow to rest 30 minutes before carving.
